Daytripper Design Co is the travel and trail art, illustration and design of artist Emily Jane Moore. Learn more about the history, name, and artist below.
HISTORY
This series of travel inspired artwork was born out of the COVID pandemic. After moving from Oklahoma to the St. Louis area in late 2020, the artist was feeling a bit stir crazy, with a desire to both explore her new city, and a longing to visit her family and friends in other parts of the US. With safety in mind, instead of taking to the road, she began to draw.
Emily decided to “explore” her new city through art, first creating a piece with St. Louis’s iconic landmarks as the focus, learning and familiarizing herself with the area as she researched and drew. From there, she drew Kansas City, her hometown, where many of her friends still reside, the next best thing to actually visiting. Finally, she “revisited” the city she just left, Oklahoma City, a nod to the people and places she’ll miss.
These pieces marked a new creative chapter for Emily. In 2022, she decided to make travel themed art the heart of her focus, creating prints and stickers based on cities and subjects from her state and the surrounding region.
BEHIND THE NAME
The name, Daytripper Design Co., was born out of Emily’s travel and trail art. With each new design, Emily daydreamed of day-tripping to the city she drew. She hopes the viewer will find a brief escape, through nostalgia or wonder, when viewing her art and embark on their own daytrip.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emily and her trusty studio assistant, Blaze, an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, work and reside in St. Charles, MO (a suburb of St. Louis.) When Emily isn’t in the studio, she can be found walking Blaze, riding her bike on the Katy Trail, spending time with family and friends, making up a new recipe, or exploring one of the many fairs and festivals in the area.
